A visit to
Parque Quistococha outside Iquitos provides one with an introduction to
native Amazonian wildlife and an opportunity for a refreshing swim in the
lovely oxbow lake.
The park is steadily improving under new management and offers a pleasant recreational and educational experience for both local and touring visitors. Recreational features include picnic facilities, lakeside boardwalks, a clean white sand beach, swimming, and boating. |
The generally well-kept animal collection includes an impressive variety of Amazonian mammals, birds, reptiles and fishes displayed amidst a natural jungle botanical garden.

Ocelots, known locally as tigrillo,
are among several native cat species displayed at Parque Quistococha.
Free-roaming small native wildlife, like this black spider monkey (left) and juvenile giant anteater (right), are often encountered along the trails throughout the park. Enjoy these close encounters with caution but remember these are wild animals capable of unpredictable and sometimes dangerous behavior.
Our academically-trained and richly experienced staff biologists provides fascinating and informative commentary on the ecology and natural history of Amazonian wildlife observed at Parque Quistococha.
Boardwalks along the edge of this beautiful oxbow lake bordering the Rio Itaya provide safe and comfortable access into lovely samples of old-growth rainforest. Tamarin monkeys, parrots, other birds and small native wildlife are often observed along the boardwalks and nature trails.
El Tigre Journeys staff biologists provide a biological lecture tour of the park for those traveling with us.
