Maestro
Daniel practices shamanism in the pure ayahuasquero tradition
of mestizo curanderismo. Seventy-seven years of age, he began his shamanic
work over forty years ago with Chachapoiano teachers in the Tarapoto area.
Don Daniel has lived with the Bora and Ticuna Indians in remote jungle areas in northeastern Perú most of his life. He often travels deep into the jungle in search of healing plants from which to prepare his remedies. Here he inspects a young chacruna sapling. His deep icaros are sung and chanted in jungle Quechua, Cocama, Ticuna, Castilian and in the language of the plants.
