Where
people interact intentionally with animals there can be many outcomes.
These creatures can be worshiped as Gods or devils, they may be used as
subjects for works of art, they may be ground up and parts used for healing
practices, and they may be raised for food or driven away as competition.
But the study of how this interaction has taken place, to what degree,
and to what outcomes is always ethno followed by some ology like biology,
zoology, etc. In our case it is followed by the study of reptiles and
amphibians and hence ethnoherpetology. In this section we will look at
indigenous peoples reaction to reptiles in the Forests of the Sachamama.
There is a very rich history of interaction with the native peoples here
going back almost to the dawn of human civilization in South America.
We will start by looking at the Sachamama and how she became to be revered
as the mother of the forest.
